The 80th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Microscopy was held at Makuhari Messe on June 4th (Tue) and 5th (Wed), 2024. The day before the conference on the 3rd of June, a public lecture aimed for residents of Chiba was held, in addition to workshops on microscope which was held at elementary schools, junior high schools and senior high schools in Chiba City. The workshops served as an opportunity for participants to experience the microscopic world using actual scanning electron microscopes and optical microscopes. These activities made possible through cooperation of local publications and public relation entities such as Chiba Nippo, Shisei Dayori, and others, which played a vital role in the promotion of the event.

In addition to the many organized public lectures, we also provided assistance to selecting local service providers, introduction of subsidy programs, and coordination with the local suppliers.
During the reception party, the Chiba’s official baseball team, the Chiba Lotte Marines’ cheer leading group, M☆Splash!! brought life to the event through powerful performances. This is in response to the organizers request of incorporating a local performance which is unique to Chiba.

This annual meeting was participated by over 1,200 people, while the reception was attended by over 300 guests, which is more than what was expected, making the event a very lively one.

This time, the event not only did provide a great opportunity for many participants to learn about the charms of Chiba. The Chiba Convention Bureau (CCB) was pleased that the event also served as an opportunity for the local residents of the prefecture who would not normally attend academic conferences to take part in the planning and workshops.

CCB hopes to continue to carry on this kind of assistance and support to academic conferences while showcasing the charms of Chiba.
