2019 Nishina Memorial Prize has been Announced

Nishina Memorial Foundation has announced Professor Shigeru Yoshida and Professor Aya Ishihara of Chiba University the recipients of the 2019 Nishina Memorial Prize. The award is for the contribution in the successful discovery of the ultra-high energy cosmic nutrinos.

Professor Yoshida of Graduate School of Science and Professor Aya Ishihara of Institute for Global Prominent Research of Chiba University were among the core members of the IceCube Collaboration, an international group of scientists involved in the research project with South Pole Neutrino Observatory. The research is to explore the origin and the mechanism of the universe through detection of neutrinos.

On September 16 to 20, the IceCube Collaboration Fall Meeting 2019 organized by the International Center for Hadron Astrophysics Graduate School of Science of Chiba University was participated by approximately 180 researchers from 11 different countries.

The Nishina Memorial Foundation was established in 1955 to commemorate Yoshio Nishina known as the founding father of modern physics research in Japan.
