Museum Course
Art museum tour course
Chiba City Museum of Art [ Website ]
This collection includes paintings related to Boso, Edo period paintings and post-World War 2 contemporary art, as well as a renowned ukiyoe collection. Within the building, the neo-renaissance style Sayado Hall, is also available as a unique venue for holding a convention.
Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art [ Website ]
The collection includes 2,400 pieces in a variety of fields - works and related materials of artists connected to Chiba Prefecture, such as Kaii Higashiyama, works of the Barbizon school such as Millet and Japanese paintings, sculpture, Western paintings, crafts, and calligraphy. You can also relax in a cafe and restaurant while viewing the beautiful garden and sculptures.
Hoki Museum [ Website ]
This is an art museum specializing in miniature photorealistic paintings which are rare anywhere in the world. 350 pieces of around 40 famous artists are housed here, including the works of the master, Sosuke Morimoto. Among these, masterpieces from number 100 on produced by 14 artists for the Hoki Museum are the highlight. The building faces “Showa Forest”, which boasts the largest general park in Chiba City, and has been awarded a Japanese architecture grand prize.
Sanyo Media Flower Museum (flower art museum) [ Website ]
Around 1,600 species and 48,000 strains of plants are planted here. In the hothouse, tropical and sub-tropical plants are grown, and in the exhibition hall, you can enjoy a flower garden with flowers of each season. Also recommended is a meal in the restaurant while viewing the flowers and greenery.
Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art [ Website ]
Paintings of the famous artists are exhibited here, from the Impressionist paintings of Rembrandt, Monet, Renoir et al, and including modern Western art such as Picasso and Chagall. In addition, the museum also owns a folding screen with painting of crows and herons by Tohaku Hasegawa which has been designated an important cultural property. The usage of space is tailored to this extensive collection and the architecture takes advantage of the natural environment with which the surroundings are blessed By all means, please make use of the restaurant where you can enjoy a meal overlooking the leafy garden, or try the tea room where you can take a break with tea and Japanese sweets in between art appreciation.

Chiba Historical and Cultural / Gourmet / Sake Brewery Courses
1. Katori Shrine [ Website ]
The head shrine of around 400 Katori shrines around the country, Katori Shrine is a pre-eminent, famous shrine in Japan, and along with Ise and Kashima was given the title “Jingu” (shrine) before the Meiji era. The shrine precincts, with the solemn atmosphere drifting through, have attracted attention as a “power spot” in recent years.
Communicating to the present the remnants of a mercantile city that flourished through ship transportation on the Tone River, Sawara is a town in which you almost feel like you have wandered into the Edo era. It was the first place in Kanto to be selected as an “Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings”, and twice a year the “Sawara Grand Festival”, designated by the nation as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, is packed with highlights. Sawara is also used as a filming location, and we recommend strolling around the town where idyllic landscape such as waterfronts and woodlands open up.
Among the nation’s leading sacred sites with over 1000 years of history, over 10 million worshippers visit each year. You can feel the history and tradition of Japanese Buddhism as you pass through the main gate made from powerful Japanese elm to the Deva gate, the large main hall, the Shakado hall and the Komyodo hall. In the adjacent Naritasan park, enjoy the flowers and landscapes of the four seasons. From mid-February to mid-March the plum garden is splendid in full bloom, and the scent of plum pervades the park.
4. Naritasan Omotesando [ Website ]
Eateries and souvenir shops line the approach to Naritasan starting from in front of JR Narita station, and here you can enjoy specialized eel restaurants and Western restaurants serving multi-national cuisine. You can take a carefree stroll while feeling the bustle of a temple town.
5. Iinumahonke Shisui traditional house and Kinoene Farm [ Website ]
This is the direct sales office of the head family of Iinuma Kuramoto founded here after relocation from an old house in Niigata Prefecture. The first floor sells sake, foods and general merchandise, and the second floor has a gallery and a café space. Tours of the warehouse are available year-round excluding July and August, and after the tour you can enjoy a tasting and shopping. In summer, you can also try blueberry picking at Kinoene farm.
Chiba and Japanese History and Culture / Museums / Samurai Residences Course
1. Chiba Prefectural Boso-no-Mura [ Website ]
This is a hands-on, interactive museum where you can learn history through archaeological relics and samurai, merchant and farmer exhibits, and you can experience the traditional lifestyle and technology of Boso Peninsula. Through the 5 senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching you can deepen your understanding of the Boso region culture passed down from old times. A large number of events are held here, such as seasonal festivals and martial arts demonstrations, folk art performances and special exhibitions.
2. National Museum of Japanese History [ Website ]
Nicknamed “Rekihaku”, within Japanese history and culture, it focuses particularly on “life history”. With real materials and models, and diorama, the museum exhibits make it easy to understand how people lived at that time in Japan.
3. Sakura Samurai Houses Hiyodori Hill [ Website ]
These are the largest remaining group of samurai houses in the Kanto region. Currently the 3 buildings of the former Kawahara residence, the former Tajima residence and the former Takei residence are open to the public. On the street is the Hiyodori hill surrounded by a bamboo forest that has changed little since the Edo period - we recommend sitting on the bench part way up the hill immersed in the atmosphere of the old days.

1. Chiba Local Wholesale Market
At this market you can buy fresh items in abundance like fresh foods including seafood arrived fresh from the fishing port, as well as seaweed, dried bonito, meat and eggs. You can also watch close up as tuna is cut up. In the cafeteria, you can sample exquisite cuisine made with fresh ingredients from the market.
2. Tourist Farm “Dragon Farm” [ Website ]
It is in a peaceful place where you can hear the nightingale chirping in spring, and is a barrier-free farm where you can enjoy picking produce even in a wheelchair. You can pick then eat and compare 14 varieties of strawberry which are cultivated in a high position so this activity can be enjoyed in a comfortable position without bending down. Located in the suburbs of Chiba City, as transport access is easy, this tourist farm is also popular with foreign visitors.

1. Urayasu Fish Market
In Tokyo Bay Resort’s “Food Kitchen”, glimpses of the fishing town, Urayasu, still remain. Around 34 stores are lined up, focused on seafood and also selling dried foods and groceries. Urayasu’s famous dish, grilled clams, is exquisite when freshly grilled. In the eateries, you can try the bowl of rice topped with sashimi, which is well-known and comes in large portions, or clams with rice.
2. Urayasu City Folk Museum [ Website ]
In this museum where you can rediscover the unique culture of Urayasu which has been built up from its period as a fishing town, Urayasu’s natural environment, history and culture, raised by the “Mother Sea”, are comprehensibly exhibited. You can experience making nori seaweed, shucking shellfish or riding on a Beka boat. Also, you can observe the manufacturing work at the Fundaiku workshop, through the Urayasu Fundaiku Technology Preservation Society.
3. Boat Cruises
You can indulge in a Tokyo Bay cruise, taking in the aroma of the sea and feeling the sea breeze, either on a route with a view of Tokyo Disney Resort or a compelling course around Tokyo Gate Bridge.
4. Urayasu Mangekyo Oedo-Onsen-Monogatari [ Website ]
On a site of around 10,000 square meters, this is a large hot spring facility providing a variety of relaxations including 38 types of baths. As well as natural hot springs, waters with traditional Chinese medicines and mixed baths for men and women in swimsuits, you can enjoy 45 large and small private banquet rooms and 9 types of beauty treatment salons.

1. Mount Nokogiri Cable Car [ Website ]
You can enjoy a mid-air trip from the foot to the summit of Mount Nokogiri on this, the only cable car in Chiba prefecture. From the summit, you can see Mount Fuji, Izu Oshima island and Tokyo Sky Tree, and it is full of points of interest such as the largest stone Buddha in Japan, and the thrilling sight, “peering into hell”, where you peer down from the top of a steep rock near the summit.
2. Koizumi Sake Brewery “Sommelier House Shuzo-no-Kan” [ Website ]
Founded in 1793, brewer of the famous Boso sakes, “Tokai” and “Tokai zakari”, this is the direct sales facility of Koizumi Sake Brewery. As well as being able to taste around 20 varieties at any time, there is also a window of time available for a tour of the brewery. Seasonal (November – around the end of March) new sake brews made from new rice, line up with limited edition goods in this house. Soft cream containing daiginjo sake is also popular.
Local Railways / Valleys / Open-Air Baths with Spectacular View of a Ravine and Gourmet Food Course
1. Kominato Railway and Isumi Railway
On old-fashioned local railways, you can feel nostalgic for old Japan seeing typically Japanese rural landscapes, the streets of historical castle towns and valleys unfold from the train window. Alongside the tracks, you can see seasonal flowers, in particular the scenery of the flowering rape blossoms in spring is moving. We recommend the kaiseki train, in which you can eat traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine while admiring the beautiful landscape.
2. Yoro Valley [ Website ]
You can enjoy the nature of the respective seasons, fresh green in spring and the autumn leaves here are the latest in Kanto. This is a spot where you can refresh yourself in the great outdoors away from the daily hustle and bustle, walking through the woodland and watching the waterfall while taking in plenty of negative ions.
3. Hot Spring (Yoro Keikoku Hot Spring Village)
As Boso’s premier hot spring village, it has been revered by many hot spring lovers for a long time. In one of the dozens of inns and guest houses dotted along the mountain stream, while enjoying the calm flow of the river and the beauty of the valley, immersed in the dark brown “black waters” of the open-air bath, you can spend some quiet moments. In addition, also recommended is the cuisine filled with the blessings of inner Boso, such as river fish, local mountain vegetables and grilled eel.

1. Nami no Ihachi Gyoganji Temple [ Website ]
It is said that “to let it be carved by a wave is the best thing on earth”, and the “wave form sculptures” of Takeshi Ihachiroshinyu, known as “Nami no Ihachi”, can be seen in the reception hall. Overflowing with vibrancy, the works are said to have influenced the works of Katsushika Hokusai, Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso and others. He carried out the sculptures decorating the shrines and temples of the Kanto region, and left a large number of works over 5 generations. Many works are scattered about the prefecture.

These are the only rain-fed rice paddy in Japan, cultivated only with rain water. On the steep slopes with an area of 4 hectares, 375 large and small rice fields are connected like stairs, and as a valuable cultural landscape, they have been selected as one of Japan’s 100 best terraced rice fields.

The biggest among the LaLaports developed across the whole country and boasting the most number of shops, there are as many as 430 shops including specialty stores, restaurants and a cinema. It is packed with people at the weekend.

This is a full-scale outlet mall adjacent to the nearest station to Makuhari Messe. The best selection of high quality products from famous manufacturers and brand select shops from Japan and overseas are provided at outlet prices.
Aeon Mall Makuhari New City [ Website ］
This is a large shopping mall made up of 4 malls for adults, families, sports and consumer electronics, and pets. This is a parking area located above the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line. This is a large outlet mall with 248 stores, the most in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Japanese and overseas stores are lined up offering a high quality lifestyle starting with overseas luxury brands, as well as fashion, hobbies, and miscellaneous goods. The Chiba Prefecture Tourism Information Center located in the mall is also recommended.
